COMMITTEE
REPORT
This year's Holiday Charity Fundraiser
was a big success!! With the help of The Butcher Shop
Restaurant, the Burn Institute, Terry Burhans (FOX
6 News) and our three firefighters (Captain Michael
Simpson, Firefighter Andy Wilson, and Firefighter
Ryan Stolzoff) the party went off with out a hitch.
A special thanks must go to the IBA associate members
for the amount of giving they demonstrated at the
event. With the generosity of the IBA's members and
it's numerous sponsors, we were able to raise $11,000
to donate to the Burn Institute. This money will be
presented to representatives of the Burn Institute
at this years installation dinner.
Thanks again to all who participated!
Sincerely,
— Scott Sherman,
2005 Holiday Charity Fundraiser Chair
I Day planning is in full swing. We
have secured a Grand Sponsor. Monarch E & S has
stepped up and they are very excited about supporting
this event in a BIG way. The I Day committee wants
to make this the best I Day ever and we need everyone's
help by purchasing your tables early. Tables are assigned
in order of check received date. We also need many
more sponsors. Please get your sponsorship form in
early to secure your choice. Later this week, we will
be announcing the I Day speaker. This years theme
is "Shoot for the Stars" and we will also
have a military presence.
— Judy King, Secretary/Treasurer
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE I am honored to assume the
role of IBA San Diego President, and to continue the
efforts on behalf our members and our community. The
year will kick off with an Installation Luau on Saturday,
January 22nd. Get that Hawaiian print shirt out and
come have a great time with your incoming board. It
will be at the San Diego Yacht Club, and invitations
have already been sent out. This will be an exciting
year for agents and brokers as we face disclosure issues,
from reasonable disclosure duties to possible CDI requirements
of unprecedented draconian regulations.
Earlier this month, President Elect Steve Shea and
I had the opportunity to have breakfast with Assemblyman
Juan Vargas, Chair of the Assembly Insurance Committee.
We were joined by his Chief of Staff, and John Norwood,
lobbyist for IBA West who spearhead the get together..
We discussed compensation – commissions, fees,
and profit sharing – sharing with him our role
as advocates for our clients. We had dialogue on the
technical implementation of SB 899 and the relief that
we should continue to see, and we also discussed momentum
that is recurring to eliminate commissions paid by the
State Fund.
It was a great opportunity to see how IBA West influences
and affects legislation on our behalf. We were able
to see and feel good about how our dues dollars are
at work for us. One of our goals this year will be to
have more “Meet Your Legislator” events
so we can discuss face-to-face issues that affect us,
so keep your eyes out!
Here’s to a great 2005 for everyone!
— Brad Wilson, IBA San Diego President
