COMMITTEE
REPORT
I - Day, Tuesday, May 10th, 2005 will
be here before we know it. Please take a minute to
sign up for sponsorships, booths, the continuing education
class and, of course, the LUNCHEON, whether it be
an entire table or you as an individual. This year,
we seem to be filling up very quickly and you don't
want to miss this annual event. I always think of
it as going to a class reunion where you meet insurance
friends and acquaintances and have a wonderful time.
This year, our theme is "Shoot for the Stars,
and our guest speaker is Patrice Milkovich from the
U.S. Olympic Training Center. We will also have the
opportunity to meet an athlete training for the next
Olympic games. We hope you will join others in your
Insurance network and the IBA of San Diego for this
special I - Day.
I'm looking forward to seeing you!
Best regards,
— Judy King, Chairman
Save the date! The IBA will be holding
their annual golf tournament this year on Thursday
October 27th at the beautiful Maderas Golf Club. We
are very excited about this year's tournament! One
of Southern California's premier golf destinations,
Maderas has been voted the #1 Public golf course in
San Diego & #6 in California by Zegat Survey 2003,
2004, & 2005, and Troon ranked Maderas #1 out
of 150 golf courses managed. Keep your eyes open for
sponsorship opportunities and registration forms to
follow in the near future. We expect to fill up early
this year.
— John Toon, Chairman
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE Rumors of Workers’
Compensation settling down are greatly exaggerated!
As reforms put into motion with SB 899 take hold, the
applicant’s attorneys have made it a priority
to thwart refom efforts. They have even gone so far
as to say their survival depends on it. Watch out, because
they have lots of money to spend on the effort.
Good news in dealing with the State Fund, as brokers
no longer have to prove their customers couldn't find
coverage elsewhere when seeking coverage from the State
Fund. Also, the company will no longer require that
policies with a premium of $250,000 or more be written
as short-term policies. State Fund has also reinstated
a "short-rate penalty" for policyholders who
want to cancel their policies mid-term and move to a
different carrier. While denying that they are trying
to grow, the changes surely can be seen as any attempt
to stem the flow of business away as other carriers
enter the market.
IBA West has two great conferences scheduled in the
next few months. The Blue Ribbon on the Big Island of
Hawaii is a great event to be held first part of May,
and the Young Broker and Agent Conference is in June
and is a must attend for development and “seasoning”
of young insurance professionals.
Here is San Diego, we are sending a rep. to the National
Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C. Your IBA
San Diego Board is taking seriously our commitment to
reinvigoration grass roots political advocacy. Our IDay
committee is planning another fantastic Industry Day,
so mark your Calendar for Tuesday May 10th.

Every year, IBA San Diego gives recognition

of the awards listed below. If you know

many California communities, to neighboring
states, and to cities across the U.S.
