COMMITTEE
REPORT
The IBA San Diego golf tournament was
held October 1st at Carlton Oaks. The association
would like to extend our gratitude to all of the sponsors
that helped make this event possible. A special thanks
goes out to Yates & Associates for being our Grand
Sponsor.
The weather was much more palatable this year, at
a modest and comfortable 85 degrees (as opposed to
100 last year!). A total of 100 golfers participated
in the event. The format was slightly different this
year than in years past, and the change appears to
have been well-received. Next year's chair for the
golf tournament is John Toon, and he'd love to hear
your comments on the tournament (location, timing,
format, anything).
The winners of the gross division were Dave Demers
(Allstate), Dan Duncan (Mountain West Finance), JP
Lawrence (JPL Insurance), and Steve Phelps (JPL Insurance).
The winners of the net division were Kevin Casey,
Ernie Torgeson, Ross Afsahi and John White, all of
GS Levine Insurance Services.
Jamie Rahm of Wateridge was the Grand Raffle Prize
winner - a set of TaylorMade RAC irons.
And last but certainly not least, we had a hole in
one this year!! Cindy Anderson from GS Levine aced
the 12th hole which is over water and into the wind.
A fantastic shot, and to the best of my knowledge
it's the first hole in one we've had in this tournament!
Thanks again to everyone who played, helped, ate,
drank or otherwise participated in this event. John
and I will be working together to make next year's
tournament the best ever.
— Steve Shea, 2004 Golf Tournament Chair
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE Dear Fellow Members,
What an exciting week ahead! We are electing a President
for the next four years, and we have the opportunity
to vote on important legislation that will hopefully
reform our state in the future. I don’t know about
you, but I will be glued to the TV watching the outcome
of tomorrow’s election.
I want to also remind everyone of our “town hall”
meeting this month. There is no excuse for anyone not
attending this meeting. With the recent lawsuit filed
by Spitzer over bid rigging and bonus money received
by brokers, your commissioner in California is already
writing legislation to change the way agents and brokers
in California do business. IBA West’s lobbyist
stand ready to protect our rights, but they need feedback
from the industry. Steve Young, IBA West’s legal
representative, Andrew Valdivia, current IBA President,
and Ann Oliver will be here to conduct this very important
meeting. Be sure to contact Lori and let her know you
are coming.
Remember, to stay on top, you need to stay in touch!
Stay in touch and informed with IBA!!!
Until next time. . . .
— Gayle Bailey, IBA San Diego President

IBA West and their lobbyists are working
hard on your behalf to fight unfavorable
legislation. They are planning to meet
with all members during a two week period
in November and have scheduled a San Diego
visit on the 17th of November. THEY WANT
YOUR FEEDBACK!! Topics to be covered are
sensitive and of the confidential nature,
thus, regular members only please!! Principals,
put this on your calendar now and save
this date. This is what your annual dues
are doing for you!! We will be getting
back to you with more specific information
on this important meeting.
We would like to thank Judy King of G S
Levine who has volunteered to move up the
chairs of the local association. She will
be moving into the spot of Treasurer. Another
big Thank You goes to George Francis of
Alta Vista Insurance, who has agreed to join
the board next year for a two year term.
Our board and executive board are full for
next year, but any interested parties wanting
information for future board positions,
please contact Lori at the IBA San Diego
office.
