COMMITTEE
REPORT
I-Day is fast approaching. Please take
the time to sign up for sponsorships, exhibitors booths,
continuing education, and the luncheon. Priscilla
Oppenheimer, our guest speaker, has many stories to
share about her career with the San Diego Padre Organization
and the many players she known. We look forward to
seeing you and many others in the Insurance Industry
for another great event!
- Daniel Frazee, Chairman
IBA San Diego's 2006 golf tournament
was another smashing success. With a full field of
144 players & wonderful sponsorship support from
the industry, we were able to donate $6,000 to the
A.B. and Jessie Polinsky Children's Center (PCC),
an emergency shelter for abused, abandoned and neglected
children. The 2007 golf tournament is scheduled for
Friday October 26th, at Maderas Golf Club in Poway,
and will no doubt be better than ever. Come join us
for a fun filled day of golf and camaraderie with
your industry peers.
- John Toon, Chairman
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE IBA San Diego
recently celebrated the 2007 installation of our Officers
and Board at the Hall of Champions. Many thanks to our
members and friends who attended this event. I look
forward to the challenges of the new year and am honored
to follow in the footsteps of our recent past presidents;
Steve Shea, Brad Wilson and Gayle Bailey. Those will
be very large shoes to fill!
Continuing the goals and strong momentum of these past
leaders and their outstanding boards, we will strive
for the following goals in 2007:
• To sponsor the Most PROMINENT INSURANCE INDUSTRY
event in San Diego County, I - Day, bringing the association
members, as well as, interested friends together for
a day of insurance education, an inspirational speaker,
lunch and meeting old friends. In addition, promoting
and sponsoring the IBA Golf Tournament at Medeiros,
and making it even more glorious this year (if that’s
possible). Finally, we wrap up the year with the IBA
Holiday Party for Charity. The 2006 event was our most
successful and allowed the association to donate more
than $19,000 to local charities. We will strive to make
the 2007 event even more innovative than ever before.
• We will continue to promote our status as the
Premier Association for insurance agents and brokers
via our quarterly membership meetings, our improved
website, and through media releases recognizing significant
events.
• We will continue to present luncheon meeting
for our members addressing topical information with
the hope of increasing the knowledge of our agents and
guests.
• We will also be involved in the discussion
and possible implementation of insurance education classes
in the high schools in San Diego County. This would
promote interest in the insurance field with our youth
and perhaps lead to careers in insurance.
• We will continue to support IBA West, through
the Advocacy fund. Our local association’s monetary
support helps to ensure the important work of the Political
Action Committee and their ability to advocate for the
rights of independent agents and our clients.
I am excited about the New Y ear, and I look forward
to meeting more IBA agents and friends at our many events
and meetings.
Judy King, IBA San Diego President
Past President's Message:
I am very proud to have served as your president during
2007. It was a very productive year for your association,
and I wanted to take a moment to highlight our mutual
accomplishments. But first I want to sincerely thank
our associate members, who time after time step forward
to sponsor and attend events. Without their support,
we would not be able to put on the high quality events
that we do, in I-Day, the golf tournament, and the holiday
party. I also want to thank Lori Fentress, our executive
director, for her tireless service to the association
and to our board of directors, who volunteer their time
to make this the premier industry association for the
San Diego independent agent or broker.
Here are some accomplishments for 2006 that your board
hopes to build on for 2007:
- A record attendance at our annual Insurance Day, with
90 exhibitors and more than 600 attendees;
- $6,000 donated to the Polinsky Children's Center as
a result of proceeds generated at our annual golf tournament;
- $19,000 donated to the Burn Institute and the San
Diego Center for Children as a result of proceeds raised
at our annual holiday party;
- $10,000 contributed to the IBA West California First
Advocacy Fund;
- Member participation in a re-election fund-raiser
breakfast for Shirley Horton, California State Assembly
member from the 78th district. Individual IBA San Diego
members contributed a collective $3,600, and IBA West's
Political Action Committee contributed $2000, for a
total of $5,600 donated to the Horton campaign. Assemblymember
Horton has been a big supporter of our industry, and
we answered a call for support from IBA West on a grass
roots level.
- I attended a meet and greet breakfast with Steve Poizner,
the republican candidate for Insurance Commissioner.
- Our 2 member meetings in 2006 provided our members
with information vital to running their businesses.
The first was an errors & omissions seminar presented
by Bruno Katz, an e&o defense attorney, and the
second was a Town Hall meeting conducted by Stewart
Sawyer, President of IBA West and Steve Young, General
Counsel for IBA West.
I look forward to working with the new slate of officers
and directors in 2007 and beyond.
- Steve Shea, 2007 Past President
